Trauma Therapy in Mansfield Nottinghamshire

Trauma therapy that helps adults rebuild stability and self trust

Trauma is not only the moment something happened. It is the impact on your nervous system afterwards. It is the numbness. The shutdown. The hypervigilance. The exhaustion. The second guessing. The feeling that you cannot rely on yourself. Trauma changes how the body reads safety. It shapes anxiety and depression. It creates patterns that look like dysfunction but are actually adaptations. I work with adults in Mansfield Nottinghamshire who feel like they have lost their sense of self and want to rebuild a stable internal world again.

What trauma actually is-
Trauma is not about the storyline. It is about the impact trauma had on your identity, your body and your sense of safety. Trauma shows up quietly in functional freeze, perfectionism, shutdown, emotional numbness and self blame. Trauma survivors often look stable while internally they are fighting to stay present.

How trauma drives anxiety and depression-
Anxiety becomes the protector. Depression becomes collapse. It is not random. These are survival responses that got stuck on repeat. That is why trauma based anxiety does not respond well to “just challenge the thoughts”. It is not a thinking problem. It is a nervous system problem.

Why trauma can feel like nothingness-
Many trauma survivors feel nothing instead of panic. That is not resilience. That is dissociation or shutdown. This is why risk can be missed. Calm can be collapse. Emotional flatness can be danger not stability.

How I work with trauma-
I use parts work, body literacy and nervous system focused therapy. You do not need to disclose trauma details if you do not want to. The aim is not to re-tell the story. The aim is to separate the protective parts from the core self, widen the Window of Tolerance and rebuild internal trust in your own signals.

The four core areas we rebuild
• nervous system stability
• understanding protector parts
• emotional regulation without suppression
• identity and meaning

What therapy looks like week to week-
We go slow enough that the body stays inside tolerance. We track patterns not random symptoms. We aim for steady grounded change not overwhelm and collapse.

Who I help:
• adults who feel numb
• adults who look high functioning but feel hollow
• adults whose trauma is relational not single event
• adults who do not trust their own internal signals anymore

FAQs
"Can trauma therapy help if I feel nothing?",

"Yes. Emotional numbness is a trauma presentation. Trauma therapy helps widen your Window of Tolerance so you can feel safely again."

"Do I have to talk about the trauma story?",

"No. Parts work and nervous system based therapy does not require retelling events. We work with the protective patterns instead."

"Does online therapy work?",

"Yes. Evidence shows online trauma therapy can be effective because the nervous system often feels safer at home."

"How long does trauma therapy take?",

"This varies. Many adults begin to feel more stable within 6 to 12 sessions, depending on how much shutdown or hypervigilance is present."
